Perched upon land overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla always has an amazing exhibit on display.

Recently, Soundwaves: The Art of Sampling has been leaving visitors in awe. Focusing on the development of sound through contemporary art, the exhibit features everything from references in Piet Mondrian’s paintings to the sound experiments of John Cage in the 1950s and 60s, as well as the work of contemporary DJs in the nightlife world.

The museum’s website reads, “Exploring the relationship between sound and vision, the artists in Soundwaves cross genre and media in the exploration of sight, sound, and the translation of the audible into the visual.”

If you’ve never been to the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, now’s the time to visit!

Their newest exhibit, on display until April 20, is entitled “Measured Time: MoPA at 25″ and chronicles the museum’s fascinating history. Their 44-foot atrium wall has been transformed into a literal timeline exhibition, focusing on those who got their start at the museum as well as the museum’s many achievements.

Along with the history of the MoPA, you can also learn about the major gifts and donations to the museum and the acquisition of significant pieces in the archive.

Using photographs from the museum’s own collection is certainly a beautiful way to celebrate the past and look forward to the future.
