
Junipero Serra Museum

Located in Presidio Park above Old Town State Historic Park, this striking mission-style building was constructed in 1929 to commemorate the site where Father Junipero Serra and Captain Gaspar de Portolá established the first mission and fortified settlement in present-day California. The museum showcases artifacts such as house wares, furniture, tools and a cannon from the Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and American periods through 1929. The Museum Store offers a complete selection of books on early San Diego and California history appropriate for children and adults.

Directions: Take Interstate 8 to the Taylor Street exit, make a right on Taylor and a left on Presidio Drive. From Interstate 8, exit Taylor Street. Turn left onto Presidio Drive and bear left at the fork. Parking lot will be on the right.
